A tampon applicator assembly comprising a barrel portion, a grip portion and an ejection plunger configured to slide coaxially within one or both the barrel portion and the grip portion, wherein one or both of the barrel portion and grip portion is/are molded from a molding composite comprising cellulose fibers, and wherein the molded one or both of the barrel portion and the grip portion have a mean void thickness of 50 μm to 300 μm.
